Upgrading/udating ubuntu is a simple task if you have fast internet connection. You can either upgrade to a new version or update the existing application with the following command. Check the Ubuntu website for newer version before upgrading because the upgradation is provided for alpha versions also,eventhough it is not explicitely stated in the upgradation window.
gksudo "update-manager -d" This command will bring up a graphical window which will ask for update/upgrade.
